Here's How the New Federal Energy Tax Credit Program Works

Our all-inclusive energy packages make qualifying simple. Talk to other window companies about energy efficient windows and they'll tell you about pieces and parts. Not Milgard. They make it easy to select windows that meet the energy tax credit requirements, without mixing and matching components from a confusing list of options.

Section 1121 of the stimulus package allows for a federal energy tax credit to homeowners, up to 30% of the cost of window and door replacement (or, a maximum $1,500 for taxable years 2009 and 2010). To qualify, windows and doors must have a whole unit U-Factor of 0.30 or lower and 0.30 Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) or lower. This is extemely important information. Energy star states that just because a window or door is Energy Star labled does not mean they qualify for the tax credit and to be wary of marketing efforts that tout center-of-glass R-values as opposed to the whole unit U-Factor data. Learn more about federal tax credits for energy efficiency on the ENERGY STAR® website.

Milgard Vinyl Windows (Tuscany™, Montecito™ and Style Line™ Series) and Classic™ and Style Line™ Series Patio Doors with the 3D MAX™ Energy Package will meet these requirements and help homeowners qualify for the Energy Conservation Incentives of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Qualifying and receiving your tax credit is easy:

  • Purchase a qualifying Milgard window or door and save your sales receipt and the NFRC/ENERGY STAR label with your tax documents.
  • Have your qualifying windows or doors installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010
  • Claim the tax credit associated with your qualifying purchase on your federal filing for the 2009 and/or 2010 tax year.
